Responsibilities
Safety-critical semiconductor products are growing across every market ADI serves. The Functional Safety Office (FSO) is a global team responsible for independent safety confirmation at the highest integrity levels per ISO 26262Road Vehicles - Functional Safety. This role puts you at the center of that challenge. You will build reusable analysis infrastructure — starting with Medini Analyze component libraries — support the development of training content, and work across multiple product families and design types rather than being embedded in a single program. You will gain broad cross-portfolio exposure to how safety-critical semiconductor products are developed.
This role offers a structured path into functional safety — with mentoring from experienced Safety Specialists, progressive project exposure, and the opportunity to build the tooling infrastructure that shapes how safety engineering scales across ADI. You are not expected to arrive as a functional safety expert. You are expected to arrive as an engineer with a solid foundation in semiconductor product development or quality engineering who wants to build tools, tool interfaces, reusable assets and workflows that improve engineering execution.

The team is global and high-impact — the tooling and methods you help build here will be used across every safety-critical product ADI ships. You will gain exposure to a breadth of product architectures and safety challenges that few individual contributor roles in the industry offer.
Support, develop and maintain reusable component libraries in Medini Analyze for safety analysis (FMEDAFailure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis: quantitative failure analysis producing safe/dangerous failure rates and diagnostic coverage. Read more, FTA, dependent failure analysis) across ADI product families, working alongside the FSO's Safety Specialists to ensure technical accuracy and standards compliance.
Work with the FSO team and BU teams to standardize analysis templates and modeling patterns, and translate product-family-specific safety architectures into reusable, parameterized components that improve consistency and reduce setup time for new assessments.
Support the development of role-based training content for common safety activities including FMEDA execution, safety case construction, and safety requirements writing.
Engage with tool vendors such as Synopsys-Ansys (Medini Analyze) on capability evaluation, feature requests, and user community activities.
Develop functional safety domain expertise through structured mentoring and progressive project exposure, contributing to confirmation reviews and safety assessments as competence develops.
Day-to-day: You will work alongside the FSO's Safety Specialists around the world, who provide technical direction and mentoring on safety analysis and Medini.
Across the FSO: You will collaborate with Functional Safety Managers and Safety Specialists globally to understand where enablement assets have the highest impact.
Engineering teams: You will work with Design Engineers across business units who are the consumers of the tools, templates, and training content you help build.
Tool vendors: You will participate in vendor engagements with Synopsys-Ansys (Medini Analyze) and others on tool capabilities and integration.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in semiconductor design engineering, quality engineering, systems engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Solid understanding of semiconductor product development processes and lifecycle.
- Experience with structured analytical methods used in product development such as FMEAFailure Modes and Effects Analysis: a bottom-up method cataloging how components fail and what effects those failures produce. Read more, design verification, characterization, simulation, or reliability analysis.
- Experience building reusable technical assets such as component libraries, parameterized templates, structured analysis workflows, or design tools.
- Strong technical communication skills with the ability to translate complex methods into clear, usable guidance for engineering teams.
- Self-directed work style suited to a globally distributed team spanning multiple countries and time zones.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10%, primarily to ADI sites in Europe and the US.
Nice to have
- Experience with safety analysis methods specifically (FMEA, FMEDA, FTA) including failure mode identification and classification.
- Experience with Synopsys-Ansys Medini Analyze or comparable safety analysis tools (Isograph, ReliaSoft, APIS IQ, Safety Office).
- Familiarity with functional safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508Functional Safety of E/E/PE Safety-Related Systems. The umbrella functional safety standard defining the safety lifecycle, SILA discrete level (SIL 1 to SIL 4) specifying the required risk reduction and dependability of a safety function under IEC 61508 and its sector standards. - Experience developing training content, structured knowledge management systems, or technical curricula.
- Familiarity with automotive quality standards such as IATF 16949 or development process standards such as ASPICE.
